One of a group, constructed in various materials, identified on the OS Open Space map as Yelland Bungalows. The genial elderly Geordie who had lived here for decades told me that this house (six bedrooms!) had been built for a manager on the Dartington Estate. When the Elmhurst family "got into a muddle" with their finances, properties like this were sold. He had never regretted the opportunity of buying. Local people thought of the area as a golden triangle: it had good communications but was rich in wildlife and very peaceful.
