Eastgate (the B6306 main road from Blanchland and Slaley) emerges onto the main street of Hexham (Priestpopple to the left, Battle Hill to the right) at this narrow entrance. Visibility is poor both for vehicles turning into and emerging from this road; whilst pedestrians walking along the south side of the main street have to cross as best they can. Pedestrian lights just off the image to the right create some opportunities for cars to turn out. Illegal parking on either side of the junction, which goes totally unchecked, makes the situation worse.
