Dr Gunn arrived in Peebles in 1885 as a young doctor in his mid-twenties, and went on to take an active part in civic life as well as fulfilling his busy GP role. The plaque is, appropriately enough, just across the road from the Hay Lodge Health Centre. A small modern housing development round the corner has been named 'Clement Gunn Square'. He wrote a delightful book 'Leaves From the Life of a Country Doctor', first published in 1935 and republished as a paperback in 2002 by Birlinn, Edinburgh.
