The Percy family (the Dukes of Northumberland) still retains considerable influence over the development of the village and owns large sections of land in and around it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_of_Northumberland Ralph Percy, the 12th Duke of Northumberland, whose home is Alnwick Castle, ranked 178th in the Sunday Times Rich List in 2009.
