A complex arrangement formed by flights of steps on either side of St Bernard's Bridge flanking an entrance arch under the bridge which leads to the two arches seen here; one to steps connecting with the roadway above, the other opening onto the river path called the Dene. This is a promenade which was laid alongside the southern bank of the Water of Leith by the Moray Estate in the 1820s.
