Newburn School was built in 1822 and bears the following inscription: 'Erected by Hugh, Duke of Northumberland, Lord of the Manor. Hugh Taylor, Bailiff.' His Grace also endowed it with the sum of ten guineas per annum. http://www.stevebulman.f9.co.uk/northumberland/newburn.html
