This cast iron mile post, originally erected by the Wadesmill Turnpike Trust in the nineteenth century, was recently restored using funds raised by The Ware Society. Although it claims Ware is one mile distant, in fact it's only about half a mile from the railway station and obviously reflects a time when the town was very much smaller than today.
