The pub sign is attached to the front wall, at first floor level. Previously the building had been used as the village store, and its front windows remain and still carry some advertising. At the bottom left can be seen an advertisement for Brooke Bond Bon, a coffee and chickory essence, though they are best known for tea. On the right is what was a well-known advertising slogan, "Players Please", for the Players brand of cigarette. When so many pubs are closing, this was a fairly rare example of a pub being opened in the 21st century. Most of these have been town centre drinking palaces aimed at young people, or pubs on new housing estates, but The Apple Tree is very different to these. Image
