'Flash @ Hebburn' is a piece of public art by Charles Quick, installed at Hebburn Riverside Park on 7 March 2009. The £150,000 project involves 12 columns in a 3 x 4 grid, each 8.5 metre high, bearing LED lights each powered by a solar panel Image Revolutionary radio technology is used to control sequences of blue and white flashes designed to echo the area’s industrial past. The columns are not inter-connected by cables. At dusk the installation plays 15 minute flash sequences of two from eight patterns http://southshieldsdailyphoto.wordpress.com/2009/03/09/blinking-at-the-moon/ During daylight hours, a 30 second sequence is used every 15 minutes.
