The Central Fire Station on Eyre Street opened on 6 March 2009, replacing the former fire station at the junction of Calver Street and Wellington Street. As well as housing a full-time operational fire station and control room it is the Service's command headquarters. This side view of the premises, on Jessop Street shows a tile mural, incorporating photographic tiles of the Service at work.
