The inscription on the northwest finial of the bridge Image] reads:- THIS BRIDGE Founded 3rd Aprl 1779 Finished Septemb 1780 BY ALEXANDER STEVENS ARCHITECT Length of the Building 350 Feet CENTRE ARCH 105 And The Two Small Arches 57 Feet Each RECONSTRUCTED 1926
