Old Oak in Delph Woods

Tall and symmetrical, this oak stands in the centre of a clearing, surrounded by dense woodland. With a girth of 4.70m, the tree is likely to be about 450 years old. Seen in Google Earth, it has an elliptical canopy 31m x 23m that seems to have grown with little competition. Perhaps the clearing is man-made and very old too?
