The sickly young Stevenson spent much of his childhood confined to this house where his imagination took him to The Land of Counterpane http://mediainformatics.biz/kidsbook/land.html and where he stared out of the window each night in the hope of catching sight of the leerie on his evening round. When he ventured out more in later life, he much preferred ferreting around the sleazy hovels of the Old Town to strolling through the "draughty parallelograms" of the New Town. Image Image
