In a few metres Castle Lane becomes very steep as it drops towards its junction with the B6175, Huddersfield Road above Mossley. On the OS 1/50,000 map there are double chevrons to indicate a hill 1:4 or steeper. There is no traffic sign at the roadside to warn motorists.
