This is on the former Dewsbury and Batley Branch Line, part of the Great Northern Railway in 1907. It went in a tunnel through a spur of hillside, avoiding the floor of the valley. While it is in the tunnel, the Dewsbury to Leeds line (LNER in 1907), the present railway, crosses over it.
