This memorial at the northwest corner of the churchyard is dedicated to Loudoun parishioners who were persecuted during the Covenanting times. The obelisk is to the left of the church spire in this photo Image The north facing panel is inscribed:- In Commemoration OF THE NOBLE STRUGGLE IN DEFENCE OF CIVIL AND RELIGIOUS LIBERTY AGAINST THE TYRRANICAL MEASURES OF THE HOUSE OF STUART MAINTAINED BY THE HEREON NAMED MARTYRS BELONGING TO LOUDOUN PARISH WHO SUF- FERRED AND DIED FOR THEIR DEVOTED ADHERENCE TO THE SCOTTISH COVENANT Above this is inscribed:- ERECTED IN 1913 BY LOCAL SUBSCRIPTION The west facing panel is inscribed:- JOHN GEBBIE 1679 THOMAS FLEMING 1679 JOHN NISBET JUNR 1683 JAMES NISBET 1684 JOHN NISBET SENR 1685 JOHN LAW 1685 The east facing panel is inscribed:- “These are they who came out of great tribulation.” REV.
