This was Sir John Soane's own description of the gatehouse he built in 1798 for the Malvern Hall estate. Today it is a private residential property, no 936 Warwick Road and a Grade I listed building http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-218330-936-solihull Soane, architect of the Bank of England, had visited the Greek temples at Paestum in Campania in 1779, but as Pevsner points out, this building does not really follow their example, as the columns have no fluting and the details followed the example of contemporary Paris rather than ancient Greece.
