View westward, towards Fairford; ex-GWR Oxford - Witney - Fairford branch, closed completely 18/6/62. The station was called plain 'Bampton' until 1940. On the right is RAF Brize Norton, which at the time of the photograph the USAF (Strategic Air Command) was occupying, with its nuclear-capable bombers.
