People spread food along this log to watch the birds and squirrels. They cope better than the native red squirrel with cold winters such as the one just gone as they are larger and store more fat. Greys carry a virus known as squirrelpox, which is harmless in greys, but deadly for red squirrels. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7025918.stm
