Admiral Storr's Tower, Hilston

The 50ft high octagonal brick building was built in 1750 by Joseph Storr (d. 1753), but by 1852 was named after Storr's son, Rear Admiral John Storr. Possibly intended as a watch tower it was reputedly a well known landmark for sailors and served as a hospital for troops camped on the coast in 1794–5.
