Officially the Royal Mail list this box as being in Chichester Road, but in fact it is just round the corner in Chalcraft Lane. At the bottom of the box, the manufacturer is stated, which was Carron Company Stirlingshire. It would have been made in the period 1910 to 1936, the years of King George V's reign. The manufacturer still exists today, as part of another company. This type of postbox is known as a drop box, because it has a box attached to it for storing some of the mail to be delivered to the local area. This is picked up by the person delivering the mail, when carrying out their delivery round. For those who study these things, the postbox's official number is PO21 42. Last collection 5.15 pm Monday to Friday, and 11.15 am on Saturday.
