Beautifully preserved horizontal single cylinder engine built in 1879 by Hick, Hargreaves & Co of Bolton. The Corliss valve cylinder is 18" x 48" and the 16' flywheel and rope race are on the other side of the wall behind the engine. It was rated at 120 horsepower at 55 rpm and was retired in 1961. It remained workable in to the 1990s and was occasionally run for the spectacle.
