The last colliery to close in the area was Mosley Common in 1968 and remarkably little evidence of this once mighty industry remains in the Little Hulton and Walkden area. The routes of some colliery railways, such as this one passing under Manchester Road East close to the site of what was once Little Hulton station, have been transformed into walking and cycle routes and are part of the Salford Loop Line network of cycleways.
