This 'drained' former glacial lake floods every winter, providing a roosting site for over-wintering geese. Normally it has dried out by the time the geese have left in April. However a day of violent thunder-storms and torrential rain on 21st May 2010 had effectively restored the water extent here to its mid-winter state!
