Long since disused, these industrial relics remain near the modern lime workings, perhaps to remind the current workforce just how different things once were. The site now produces burnt lime and ground lime on a 21st century industrial scale, and although the quarry is no longer operational, the unprocessed limestone is transported in by train from Tunstead. It is then heated in a 1960s gas-fired Maerz Kiln, before being bagged or trucked out in tankers.
