Placed rather casually on the grass in the graveyard, this stone seems to record that the former chapel was built in 1881. However Malcolm Bull's 'Calderdale Companion' records that the chapel was built in 1854, damaged by fire in 1867 and enlarged in 1889. There was also a school, which was used until 1985 when it became unsafe, so maybe the date stone is from that.
