Three gasometers (or gasholders) near The Oval, E2 (not The Kennington Oval) viewed from the north side of The Grand Union Canal, E8 in 2008. The leftmost holder has the more modern self supporting construction of concentric cylinders set one within the one below. The other two holders are supported within a frame which stands like a skeleton when the holder is empty. The yellow hoarding has replaced buildings that were present in a previous geograph taken in 2005 http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/18091. Proposals to remove these gasometers have been thwarted by unresolved issues of the toxicity of the land on which they stand.
