The cherry blossom which makes this row of shops more attractive is shedding its petals as the weather has been unseasonably cold and windy. The row of shops was built in a previous age when the Post Office, the Postbox and the Phonebox were essentials of communication and finance for individuals. They are now, we are told, superfluous to requirements and are too costly, so they are hanging on by the skin of their teeth. The residents in this area are lucky, but how long will this last? The bank shown in Image] nearby has long gone. History is always under our noses, but we often don't notice it.
