Such a grand entrance for an isolated country school! The school operated on three floors and being built on a steep incline this meant that although the main doorway, here, was at the level of the road, the lower ground floor, down these stairs, was at the level of the playground. The floor above looks as if it housed offices and storage, also a bathroom.
