From the western end of the platform, the narrow and standard gauge tracks can be seen. However, the scene is dominated by the "slate" mountains, which brought the railways here in the 19th century. The wall of rock, in the centre of picture, is Craig Nyth-y-gigifran, whilst the distant peak is Moel-yr-hydd.
