Despite being unable to locate any written evidence, this hollowed ancient tree appears to be the main contender for the 'Broad Oak' which gives the nearby farmsteads their names. This small community was originally called 'The Rodes' and was independent of the local manor, the estate having being granted to the Knights Hospitallers.
