A late 17th century village pub, which is a Grade II listed building. In his Short Account of Acton Church & Neighbourhood, published in 1930, Canon Herbert Moore refers to the village inn being called "The Star" and says, "This stands for the old name of Stirrup, since the last drink which a man had before riding on his way was called Stirrup Cup." Canon Moore was vicar of Acton Church from 1899 to 1936. Obviously there were no drinking and riding laws in force in those days! Image
