A humble addition to Broughton Senior Secondary was this annexe (1930s build?) which accommodated the 'baby-boomers' of the 1950s and 60s. It contained a small gym hall, along with Technical Education and English classrooms. In the 1960s, one of the wooden desks here bore the distinctive name, C M Grieve, carved carefully with a pen-knife. If genuine, it suggests that it was here that Hugh McDiarmid developed his love of poetry...or, alternatively, found English poetry a bore.
