Is this the longest straight motorway footbridge in the country? From the Where's the Path website I estimate it to be about 98 metres long. So why is it here? The answer is probably this. Prior to the arrival of the motorway the main road into Beaconsfield from the south was Windsor End. When the motorway was built Windsor End was truncated on the northern side and road traffic used the bridges at Image instead. However there was probably a need to sustain at least a pedestrian right of way along the old road route which accounts for the footbridge.
