A kenspeckle character known as Kitty Swanson lived in a now vanished cottage near here in the late 19th century and operated a small ferry across the river Ericht. Many of her passengers were schoolchildren from local farms heading to and from the (now closed) Bendochy village school. This substantial footbridge spanning the Ericht is still known locally as Kitty Swanson's bridge.
