Herne had three pubs. The Smuggler (on Albion Lane). The Butchers Arms (on Herne Street) and Red Lion (unseen - to the left, also on Herne Street). The Smuggler (managed by Shepherd Neame) and the Red Lion (independent) are still surviving. Unfortunately, the Butchers Arms has closed and is now a private house. This micro-pub was once the smallest pub in Kent. See http://www.micropub.co.uk/ for more details.
