In Victorian times, newspapers (and books) were beyond the means of ordinary working men. So in many villages, a public reading room was built where one copy of the paper could be read by many people. Rupert Murdoch, doubtless, would NOT have approved of such an arrangement. The Mullion reading room dates from 1889.
