This may have originated as the dower house to Cockington Court, which is a steep valley away. "Late C16/early C17 with extensive C19 alterations" http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=390728&mode=adv . it has a rather neo-Tudor C19 feel.
