It was commissioned by the Reverend William Townley, and built in 1865 by the architect John Giles. After cracks > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1820706 started to appear in the walls - caused by subsidence mainly on the south side - the building became unsafe and had to be closed in 1999. In summer 2007 the Diocese of Ely applied for planning permission involving the demolition of the 145 year old church, and the subsequent (controversial) erection of five four-bedroomed houses on the site, which is situated within the Nordelph Conservation Area. Furnishings and stained glass windows were removed, the latter being destined for the cathedral museum in Ely, although at present no-one seems to know where the glass is being stored. All windows were then boarded up > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1820716 and a security fence preventing access now surrounds the derelict building. After the recent rejection of the planning application Health and Safety regulations kicked in and the building is now scheduled for demolition after all, with the work starting on Monday, 26 April 2010.
