'Ring Haw' running around

The signalbox for Sheringham West can be seen in the background, 0-6-0ST - 1982 Ring Haw was built by Hunslet in 1940 and spent all of its working life at Nassington Quarry, Peterborough. It was purchased by NNR plc and arrived on the NNR in 1970. The North Norfolk Railway, known as the Poppy Line, is a heritage steam railway offering a 16 kilometre round trip from the coastal town of Sheringham to the market town of Holt, further inland. This section of the line used to form part of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway, and with the recently opened new level crossing in Sheringham, it has been reconnected to the National Rail network. The crossing was re-opened on Thursday 11th March, when Pete Waterman OBE welcomed Britannia class 70013 “Oliver Cromwell” bringing the first train over Station Road for 46 years. Work to rebuild the line started in 1965 and the operating company, North Norfolk Railway plc, was launched in 1965. In May 1973, the railway was the scene of filming of the episode The Royal Train of the popular TV programme Dad's Army. Another scheme, the Norfolk Orbital Railway, plans to link the town to the market town at Fakenham. The main restoration sheds are located in Weybourne and new carriage storage sheds have been built near Holt.
