The church is located on Wyndham Road. The reason why it is behind a high fence is that it is part of the site of St Michael's Academy (a Church of England high school, formerly Archbishop Michael Ramsey School). The building was erected in 1974 to the designs of Thomas Ford & Partners. It is undistinguished apart from the short spire that marks it as a place of worship. The full name of the parish is Camberwell, St Michael & All Angels and All Souls with Emmanuel. It has a complicated history, originating in three different 19th century parish churches, none of which stood on this site (though the Wyndham Road Mission did) and have all been demolished. The present St Michael & All Angels church is the third in the area to bear this name, and is itself due to be replaced by a new building further along Wyndham Road when the Academy is redeveloped over the next few years.
