Watling Street was an important ancient road in Britain, built by the Romans during their military occupation. It ran from London generally north to the intersection with the Fosse Way, SW of Leicester, and onward in a westerly direction to Wroxeter in Shrewsbury, a distance of more than 100 mi (161 km).
