Pevsner describes Pirton Court as 'a large timber-framed house of the late C16 with specially gay decoration, but much restored.' It's likely the site may predate this time with its origins going back to the Domesday Book, nearby the map indicates the remains of a moat. This was probably the site of the home of the Ffoliot family from the 13th century. Sir William Corteyn purchased the house in the middle of the 16th century and in 1690 it was acquired by the Coventry family, of nearby Croome Court, and remained so until 1983. In 1924 according to the website British History Online, it was home to Viscount Deerhurst, who was the son and heir to the 9th Earl of Coventry, however, he never inherited the Earldom as he predeceased his father. Pictured here is the 1910 extension to the property and not the building described.
