William Inge appointed his unmarried younger brother, Reverend George Inge to lead the Thorpe parish in 1824 and built him this huge rectory. William died in 1870 and was succeeded by Reverend George as squire of the hall until his death in 1881. George kept both Thorpe Hall and the rectory fully staffed and liked to dine at the one and sleep at the other, often after a day's hunting. The rectory was far too large for later incumbents and it was sold off. It is now not part of the Thorpe Estate. Image Image
