This part of Winton School was the former Andover Girls School and it used to have a twin boys school on the opposite side of the road, the school became mixed and a footbridge was built to enabled the pupils to cross the road safely. The "boys school" was destroyed in an arson attack and the site was later redeveloped for housing and became Winton Chase.
