Introduction

The photograph on this page of Path over the summit by Christine Johnstone as part of the Geograph project.

The Chesterfield Canal tunnelled its way through the highest ground it had to cross, between Norwood and Kiveton Park. Norwood Tunnel is 2,633 metres long and has no towpath. The horses which pulled the boats had to be walked 'over the top' along this path.
