Now simply a fishing pond, the original purpose of this pond is much more interesting. It was the ice pond for Poynton Towers. During freezing weather, ice would be collected from the surface of the pond and stored in the adjacent ice house http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1778710 for use as and when required.
