A popular canalside pub adjacent to the Wey Navigation. A great many years ago the pub used to double as a temporary mortuary for the nearby Brookwood Cemetery. Occasionally funerals would be held in the pub itself, with the body laid out in the middle of the pub. Drinks taken at the time were known as "stiff drinks" and maybe this is the origin of that expression. Fortunately there is absolutely no risk of stumbling across a dead body when visiting the pub these days. Image
