This is the ex-LNW Station at Batley on the Manchester - Huddersfield - Leeds main line, looking SW towards Dewsbury from beside the ex-GN Wakefield - Ossett - Dewsbury - Leeds/Bradford line seen in the foreground, which was closed from 7/9/64 Goods 15/2/65.and was served by the lines from Wakefield (Westgate) and Ossett via Dewsbury. It went on to Leeds (Central) via Tingley and Beeston (closed to passengers 29/10/51, goods 30/6/64) and to Bradford (Exchange) via Adwalton Junction (closed 7/9/64, Goods 15/2/65), then Drighlington & Adwalton and Laisterdyke (closed to passengers 4/7/66, Goods 31/10/66 - 16/3/68). There was also a GN line (Goods only) from Ossett to Batley direct, which lasted until 1/5/72. The picture was probably taken from a footbridge that used to cross here.
