This shop front at 44 Lion Street, which might perhaps have been a butcher's, is deceptive: it stretches a long way back and houses over 50,000 books. Richard Booth is the local man who brought fame and fortune to the border market town of Hay when he started selling books at the Old Fire Station in the 1960s. Now the town has over 30 bookshops, a huge annual literary festival and world fame.
